Peters then struts down the aisle toward the person filming.

“If you have any questions, please refer to your safety card or ask any of the crew members as they do their final cabin check,” the voice says as Peters, standing next to the person filming, gestures emphatically.

“And as always, let us know if there’s anything we can do to make your time with us more enjoyable,” the voice says as the briefing concludes.

Peters told The Advocate that he loves his job and takes his responsibilities seriously.

“A lot of times with people who fly a lot, they tend to zone out during the safety demonstration,” Peters said. “One of the most important parts of my job is giving safety demonstrations because, first and foremost, flight attendants are there for safety.”

He said, “So, I started doing it as a way to engage people to pay attention.”

He said that part of the fun is watching the passengers to see who’s paying attention.

“So, the fact that in that video, a guy pulls out the safety card, I love that because that means I’m doing my job of informing you of the safety features, and in the unlikely event that’s something where to happen that you’ll be prepared,” he said adding, “You’ll remember it.”

Peters said it was “wild” to him that the video was getting much attention.

Peters said there have been detractors online, with some flight attendants commenting and saying that what he does is unprofessional.

But Peters said he remains unbothered by critics.

“I look at it as I personally feel I’m not taking away from anything I’m not taking away from the demo,” he said. “I’m simply adding a little bit to it in a way that captures people’s attention and kind of forces them to pay attention to me.”

Peters explained, “Ultimately, the goal is to make people pay attention because, again, if something were to happen, my job as a flight is to be able to get passengers safely off a plane in 90 seconds or less, and I take that very seriously.”

With his lip-syncing skills and embracing his inner drag queen, Peters, an admitted RuPaul’s Drag Race superfan, said he had explored the idea.

“I don’t have a drag persona because the excuse I’m giving myself right now is that I don’t have her name yet,” he said. “Once I know what her name is, then she can be fully formed and like come to creation. But it’s definitely something that has always been there and that I think I do want to pursue doing sometime soon.”

He added, “I want to pursue drag because I would enjoy it since I love entertaining people. I love to make people smile. I feel that drag is something that could help me achieve that.”
