Ron DeSantis Obsesses Over Bud Light and Dylan Mulvaney; Threats Company With Lawsuit

In his latest attack on the existence of LGBTQ+ people, on Thursday, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis said his state government would investigate Bud Light’s parent company’s involvement with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

The conservative backlash against Bud Light’s recent marketing campaigns has prompted DeSantis to urge the state’s pension fund manager to act.

DeSantis suggested that AB InBev, Bud Light’s parent company, has “breached legal duties owed to its shareholders” by actively supporting “radical social ideologies,” according to a letter the governor tweeted Friday morning.

In response to a partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, conservative and progressive boycotts of Bud Light precipitated a decline in sales. While those on the right were angry about Bud Light’s partnership with a trans person, many on the left felt the company abandoned Mulvaney to support right-wingers.

“All options are on the table,” wrote DeSantis in a tweet, as the state reviews the impact of AB InBev’s recent financial downturn, but what rights Florida might have to challenge a multinational corporation’s actions is unclear.

In the letter from DeSantis to Lamar Taylor, interim director of the State Board of Administration, which manages retirement funds for Florida’s public workers, the governor said, “We must prudently manage the funds of Florida’s hardworking law enforcement officers, teachers, firefighters, and first responders in a manner that focuses on growing returns, not subsidizing an ideological agenda through woke virtue signaling.”

The conservative governor is again trying to have the state government exert pressure against a business because it supports LGBTQ+ rights.

DeSantis is currently embroiled in two lawsuits with the Walt Disney Company after he engaged in acts of revenge for the entertainment giant’s criticism of his draconian “don’t say gay” law, which prevents discussion in schools about LGBTQ+ people through high school graduation.

DeSantis, who has been struggling in the polls as he seeks the Republican presidential nomination, has vowed to wage a “war on woke.” He says he will make America Florida if he wins.
