Queer Tension Rises in Peacock’s Thriller ‘One of Us Is Lying’

Author: Donald Padgett

The latest episodes of Peacock’s twisting mystery One of Us Is Lying drop Thursday, and The Advocate has an exclusive clip from episode 4.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Karen M. McManus, One of Us Is Lying tells the story of five students serving detention. Things ramp up when of the students, Simon, dies after taking a drink of water from the school library’s water fountain. Simon had been running a tabloid-style app that published gossip and secrets about his fellow classmates, leaving far too many fellow students with a motive to kill him, including those serving detention with him the day he died.

Annalisa Cochrane as Addy

In the exclusive clip, Addy (portrayed by Annalisa Cochrane) attempts to console Janae (Jessica McLeod) over losses they’ve recently endured. Addy, the ever-upbeat cheerleader, only makes the situation worse. At first, it appears the two have discovered an emotional connection. Addy’s boyfriend dumped her after Simon exposed her sexual infidelities on his app. But Janae, a punk rock outsider and a lesbian, was best friends with Simon, and she is offended that Addy would compare a breakup with losing a best friend to murder. Beyond that, there’s clearly another kind of tension between the teens.

Episodes 4 through 6 of One of Us Is Lying drop today, on Peacock. You can check out episodes 1-3 there as well. And watch the exclusive clip from episode 4 below.
