Prince William Enjoys Meal at LGBTQ+ Restaurant in Warsaw

Prince Williams was spotted enjoying dinner at an LGBTQ+ restaurant while on a visit to Poland, where same-sex unions are not yet recognized by law.

The Butero Bistro, which identifies itself as a “queer space with comfort food,” is located in the Polish capital of Warsaw. During his two-day visit to the country, William’s Kensington Palace team was working in the vicinity of the restaurant, which they booked for a Wednesday night dinner.

According to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail, the Prince of Wales personally requested to join his staff. “He asked them what they were doing and then asked to come along. It was a great night by all accounts,” the source shared.

The British royal was photographed by local diners, who shared the pictures on social media. On Thursday, Butero Bistro posted a video to their Instagram account that shows an employee taping Prince Williams’ name to a chair.

Per the Daily Mail, the guest of honor ordered a pulled pork sandwich and fries for £7.50 (about $9 USD).

Along with reasonably priced meals, the queer-friendly Butero Bistro serves up drag-themed karaoke nights, promoting inclusivity in a country that has a lackluster record on LGBTQ+ rights. In addition to refusing to recognize same-sex marriage, Polish law does not regard trans people as a protected group.

William has spoken out in support of queer communities in the past. In 2016, he appeared on the cover of Attitude, an LGBTQ+ magazine, and denounced homophobic, bi-phobic and transphobic bullying in an interview for the cover story.

Before traveling to Warsaw and dining at Butero, the Prince visited Rzeszów to meet with British and Polish troops stationed mere miles from the border of Ukraine. The visit comes as part of ongoing military and humanitarian relief efforts from the United Kingdom and Poland.
