RuPaul’s Heartfelt Emmys Speech: ‘Don’t Give Up on Love’

RuPaul delivered some heartfelt remarks at the Emmy Awards.
In accepting the award for Competition Program for RuPaul’s Drag Race, the host spoke to the fearful moment many Drag Race
“A special note to the view: Kiddo, I know how you feel right now. Just know that you are loved. Don’t give up on love. Believe in love and the power of love, OK?” RuPaul said.
The world’s most famous drag queen was likely referencing a disheartening moment for liberals, which includes the recent death of liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg and the looming presidential election. The speech did not specify these events but was meant to inspire hope.
The VH1 reality competition of drag performers won a slew of awards this year in addition to the abovementioned one: Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program, Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program, and Oustanding Contemporary Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program, and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program. RuPaul’s won his fifth consecutive for this last category.
