‘And Just Like That’ to Return This Summer

Author: Alex Cooper

The Sex in the City sequel And Just Like That will premier its new season in June.

Max — formerly known as HBO Max — released a teaser for the show on Wednesday.

“If you’re lucky, you can always count on your closest friends to be there,” says Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie in the teaser. “We are all blissfully unaware when our lives are about to change.”

And Just Like That follows the original gang, including series originals Carrie, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they “navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s”

In season one, Carrie dealt with the fallout and grief following the loss of her husband Big. This time around, it seems that she’s ready to thrive — and that of course means getting back out there and finding new paramours. And it seems some old ones as well. The trailer ends with the return of Aiden (John Corbett), one of her partners from the original series.

Series regulars include Parker, Nixon, Davis, Sara Ramírez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Christopher Jackson, Niall Cunningham, Cathy Ang, and Alexa Swinton.

And with Ramírez onboard, we know that Miranda and Che’s queer romance seems to be back on. In fact, in the trailer, Miranda even tells her friends that the relationship is a “big step up” for her and Che.

The series is executive produced by Michael Patrick King, John Melfi, Julie Rottenberg, Elisa Zuritsky, Parker, Davis, and Nixon.

The first season of And Just Like That was released on HBO Max in 2021 over 23 years after Sex and the City premiered on HBO. The original show was groundbreaking in 1998 with its openness about female friendship and sexuality. Though the original series has been criticized for its lack of diverse casting, problematic portrayals of LGBTQ+ people, and class, And Just Like That included a variety of characters and storylines.Watch the trailer below.
