Here Are the LGBTQ+ Nominees at MTV’s Movie and TV Awards

The Queer Nominees Are…
Although Drew Barrymore has dropped out as host, the 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards remain set for this Sunday. Fans were able to vote for each category on MTV’s Instagram stories, meaning we may see results quite different from the Oscars or the Golden Globes. Though most of the voting has closed, you’ll have to wait until Sunday to see who brings home the Golden Popcorn. Here are all the queer films, television series, and actors that have earned nominations.

Scream VI – Best Movie
In a much-deserved nod to the horror genre, Scream VI is nominated for best movie. The slasher sequel features out actor Jasmin Savoy Brown in the role of Mindy, a queer character.
The Last of Us – Best Show
HBO’s highly acclaimedThe Last of Us represents a watershed moment in LGBTQ+ representation, featuring multiple queer romances and a diverse cast.
Yellowjackets – Best Show
Showtime’s Yellowjackets is bursting with queer representation, and this year it’s up for Best Show.
Stranger Things – Best Show, Best Kick-Ass Cast
Stranger Things season 4 was a smashing success, and it’s nominated for two awards. The series features gay actor Noah Schnapp and a number of queer characters.
The White Lotus – Best Show
The Sicily-set second season of The White Lotus is very gay, and fans loved its dark comedy and ensemble cast.
Keke Palmer – Best Performance in a Movie, Best Comedic Performance
Sexually fluid actor Keke Palmer brought home these two nominations for her stellar performance in Jordan Peele’s Nope.
Aubrey Plaza – Best Performance in a Show
Iconic bisexual actor Aubrey Plaza is up for an award for her role in season 2 of The White Lotus.
Harry Styles and David Dawson – Best Kiss
For this same-sex kiss in My Policeman, Harry Styles and out actor David Dawson gave it their all.
Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne – Best Kiss
In a noteworthy scene from Only Murders in the Building, Selena Gomez locks lips with out actor and model Cara Delevingne.
Bella Ramsey – Breakthrough Performance, Best Duo
Nonbinary actor Bella Ramsey gave us a masterful performance as Ellie in The Last of Us — and they’re only 19 years old! They are also nominated for Best Duo with co-star Pedro Pascal, the ally of the moment.
Emma D’Arcy – Breakthrough Performance
For their performance in Max’s House of the Dragon, nonbinary actor Emma D’Arcy earned this nomination.
Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke – Best Duo
Maya Hawke, who plays queer character Eleanor, teamed up with Camila Mendes in Do Revenge.
RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars – Best Competition Series, Best Host, Best Reality On-Screen Team
RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars season 7 features winners from previous seasons, making the competition fiercer than ever. The show and its hosts earned three nominations.
Drew Barrymore – Best Host
Legendary bi actor Drew Barrymore made waves in the entertainment world with her eponymous talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show.
Lady Gaga – Best Song
Lady Gaga’s sparkling career reached another high point with “Hold My Hand,” which she recorded for Top Gun: Maverick.
Demi Lovato – Best Song
Nonbinary pop star and actor Demi Lovato earned this nomination for “Still Alive,” featured on the Scream VI soundtrack.
Bill and Frank Play Piano – Best Musical Moment
This touching queer moment features actors Nick Offerman (Bill) and Murray Bartlett (Frank) playing and singing Linda Ronstadt’s “Long, Long Time.” Bring on the waterworks!
