Author: Mikelle Street

Season’s greetings.

Pete and Chasten Buttigieg have celebrated their first Christmas holiday with their newborns Joseph August and Penelope Rose. The family spent the holiday with Chasten’s family in Traverse City, Michigan.

The twins were born in September and with their arrival, Buttigieg became the first Senate-confirmed U.S. Cabinet that is a gay parent. After posting a photo following the birth, the Buttigiegs posted a photo of the family celebrating Halloween in the hospital. Joseph August had been hospitalized for a respiratory virus unrelated to the virus at the center of the ongoing global pandemic.

“Sending best wishes for a Merry Christmas from our family to yours!” Pete Buttigieg wrote to Instagram and Twitter with a photo of the family nearby a Christmas tree.

The celebration comes at the end of a successful year for Pete Buttigieg. After getting sworn in as Secretary of Transportation, he has stayed in the forefront. In addition to expanding his family, Buttigieg has served as one of the most incisive surrogates for the Biden administration to appear on Fox News. He’s also been faced with a multi-level infrastructure issue that’s manifested itself as major supply chain breakdowns. Though it was expected that the breakdown would leave the shelves bare for the holiday season, reports have shown that the levels were not drastically different than they have been over the last few years.

Buttigieg is also slated to award more than $241 million in grants to bolster U.S. ports to further modernize American infrastructure. As the Secretary of Transportation, he will be looked at as the face of this aspect of Biden’s Build Back Better plans.
