Sayonara sucker!
To ring in 2022, best friends and business partners Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper again hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast. This year, as a part of the broadcast, Eric Adams was sworn in as the new mayor of New York City. But before he did, Cohen let loose his thoughts on Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“Just watching Mayor de Blasio doing his victory lap dance after four years of the crappiest term as the mayor of New York,” he said, referring to de Blasio dancing with his wife on screen.
“The only thing that the Democrats and the Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been, so sayonara sucker! 2022!” he continued. “It’s a new year, ‘cuz guess what? I have a feeling that I am going to be standing right here next year, and you know who I’m not going to be looking at dancing as the city comes apart?! You!”
At multiple times, co-host Cooper seemed to try to interrupt to redirect the conversation, even at one point warning Cohen to not go on a rant. he seemed even to try to physically pull Cohen back, causing his jacket to come off. Nothing helped.
Bill de Blasio was first elected mayor and began his first term in 2014. He served for two terms.
Shortly after midnight, after Adams was sworn in, his team drew a line in the sand on social media stipulating that content posted before January 1, 2022 represented the views and policies of de Blasio.
Cohen and Cooper were seen drinking throughout the broadcast. At one point they interviewed a seemingly intoxicated Regina King.
On Saturday, Cohen did some reflecting.
“Good morning,” he tweeted. “Um, I was a bit overserved last night.”
