LGBTQ+ GOP Group Endorses Sarah Palin for Congress

While Sarah Palin lost a special election in August to fill Alaska’s only House seat, the Log Cabin Republicans have endorsed her for the general election in November.

In a tweet Tuesday afternoon, the Log Cabin Republicans, a group of LGBTQ+ conservatives, endorsed the former Alaska governor, former reality TV star, and failed vice presidential candidate.

“Log Cabin is PROUD to endorse @SarahPalinUSA for Congress! Palin is a trailblazer who paved the way for the America First movement. Her commitment and dedication to Alaska is unparalleled and admirable. Palin will protect individual liberties for all Americans!” wrote the group.

Palin accepted the endorsement and thanked the group of gay Republicans the following day, tweeting, “Thank you @LogCabinGOP!” with an American flag emoji.

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Log Cabin Republicans in the race for Alaska’s at-large congressional seat,” Palin wrote. “Republicans must unite to win this important election so we can reclaim the House majority and start working to get America back on the right track. Together, we will restore American energy dominance, curtail inflation, get the economy growing again, and protect our God-given individual liberties.”

Founded by so-called “loyal Republicans,” Log Cabin Republicans seeks to “educate Republicans” on accepting and advancing their idea of the LGBTQ+ agenda, the group claims on its website.

The irony of Palin accepting the endorsement of the very group that the Texas GOP excluded from a recent Texas GOP convention seems to be lost on many conservatives.

Often, critics of Log Cabin Republicans fail to understand why a group would align with an ideology that seeks to erase their rights. In Palin’s case, she has a record of anti-LGBTQ+ bias. For instance, Palin has been opposed to marriage equality.

In October 2008, Palin told the Christian Broadcasting Network, “I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that that’s where we would go because I don’t support gay marriage.”

Last Friday, the Log Cabin Republicans released additional endorsements, including Alaska’s incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
