GOP hires Twitter troll as “LGBTQ outreach” advisor

With Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden leading polls nationwide, the Republican Party is so desperate to woo potential voters that they’ve hired an advisor to do “LGBTQ outreach.”

Picking someone to fill the position had to be hard. With so few gay Trump supporters, the GOP had to dig deep for a qualified candidate – and they turned up a Twitter troll.

Richard Grenell, the former ambassador to Germany and former acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI), has been announced as the latest hire according to Fox News.

Grenell’s tenure as ambassador was rocked with repeated scandals and German officials reportedly “shunned” the gay Trump sycophant, describing him as “narcissistic.” Grenell’s appointment as acting DNI made him the first out gay man to hold a Cabinet-level position.

After leaving his position as acting DNI, Grenell did not return to Germany and news outlets in the country gleefully reported that he would likely resign as ambassador.

From the beginning, Grenell’s appointment was controversial. His confirmation hearings were held up over a “litany of derogatory comments about women’s personal appearances” on Twitter.

As German ambassador, Grenell announced a new federal initiative to decriminalize homosexuality around the world and said it demonstrated Trump’s commitment to civil rights and the LGBTQ community. Asked about it by reporters, Trump admitted he didn’t know anything about it.

While he left his post in Europe, Grenell could not quit Twitter and quickly resumed his relentless trolling on Trump’s favorite social media site. He has tussled with LGBTQ Democrats, reporters, and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) repeatedly since being replaced as the top intelligence chief.

Grenell will have his hands full trying to convince LGBTQ people that reelecting Donald Trump would be good for them. Trump has repeatedly attacked the community, instituting some of the most vicious measures to curtail LGBTQ rights in the history of the American government.

The Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) released a video in support of Trump this week that features Grenell, attacking Joe Biden’s record on LGBTQ issues while saying that Trump has actually been the best president ever for gay people.

The Trump administration has opposed LGBTQ rights in court, banned transgender people from the military, rolled back protections for LGBTQ people in several executive departments, expanded religious exemptions to allow nonprofits and businesses to discriminate against LGBTQ people, and given anti-LGBTQ hate groups more access to the White House.

“As America’s first openly-gay cabinet member, I can confidently say that President Trump has done more for gay and lesbian Americans than any other president, and it is not even close,” Grenell said in a statement to Fox News.

Even the Trump campaign’s surrogates tell voters who oppose LGBTQ rights that Trump just needs four more years to enact their agenda.

The LCR video attacks Biden for a number of his former positions – like his opposition to marriage equality in the 90s – which are still common GOP positions today. Biden was the first major Democrat to embrace marriage equality, doing so before Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and is widely credited with changing the political conversation on same-sex marriage.

It even goes after Biden for an off-hand comment he made about gay people in 1973, although the video doesn’t mention that the comment was from almost 50 years ago.

The rest of the video is about Grenell’s bitterness towards gay Democrats.

Trump’s religious right supporters decried Grenell’s appointment as ambassador, his appointment to acting DNI, and the initiative, saying he would “promote homosexuality” and sin.
