Bakery raises thousands for LGBTQ+ youth after “concerned citizen” rages over its Pride flag

Community members flooded a Cranford, New Jersey bakery with support after the store received a hateful letter about the Pride flag hanging at its entrance.

Shortly after, the bakery announced a fundraiser for the Trevor Project on April 28th. “Let’s make lemonade out of the lemons!!!” Giardi wrote on Instagram. “Join us for this special event! It will be a fun day!”

Customers showed up in droves. Hundreds lined up down the block to purchase something sweet and contribute to the LGBTQ+ organization for youth mental health. The fundraiser was so successful that the bakery ran out of products after 70 minutes.

Giardi told WKXW that the event raised $4,000 for the Trevor Project.

Even Cranford Mayor Brian Andrews joined in on the fun, posting photos of the event and declaring Cranford as “an inclusive, pluralistic community that is welcoming to all residents and visitors.”

He added, “It was heart-warming to see so many people come out to support Sweet n’ Fancy over the weekend in their fundraiser for the Trevor Project.”

“The amount of love and respect at this event. Unexplainable!” Giardi wrote on Facebook. “We owe a lot of thanks to many. That will come tomorrow. I will leave you tonight with hearts filled with gratitude, so proud of our supporters for your patience and most of all, love won here.”
