Police in New York City are on the lookout for a shirtless man they say assaulted a woman while yelling anti-LGBTQ+ slurs in Hudson River Park earlier this week.
The attack occurred near Pier 40 around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, according to Patch. The man, described as 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing an estimated 215 pounds, allegedly slapped the 52-year-old female jogger in the face while he yelled anti-LGBTQ+ slurs. The slap was so hard it sent the jogger to the pavement, resulting in cuts to the woman’s face, body, and hands.
The attacker then ran away, leaving the injured woman on the pavement.
Police said the shirtless slapper with a six-pack was wearing a gray ensemble of t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers.
The incident on Monday follows the arrest of a man police say yelled anti-LGBTQ+ slurs as he sexually and physically assaulted a woman on a subway train last week.
Ian Williams, 22, was arrested and charged in the attack that took place Thursday, August 17, on a J train in Brooklyn. According to the NYPD, Williams groped an unidentified 22-year-old woman from behind while they waited on the station platform in Bushwick. The woman protested and a fight developed as the two boarded an arriving train. Once onboard the train, Williams reportedly threatened the woman and used anti-LGBTQ+ slurs as he punched her repeatedly about the face and body, leaving her battered and with a broken nose.
Williams reportedly disembarked at the next station. The woman sought medical attention for her injuries on her own at a local hospital.
According to the Patch, prosecutors have charged Williams with assault, sexual abuse, and forcible touching for a hate crime.
An arrest was made earlier this month in the stabbing death of O’Shae Sibley in Midwood near Coney Island in July. Dmitry Popov, 17, was arrested for allegedly stabbing the dancer and activist following a dispute at a gas station. He surrendered to authorities and was charged as an adult with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors said Popov and his friends were offended by the group’s dancing and used anti-gay and racist language before Popov stabbed Sibley once in the chest.
